The Stance

Easy tips to find your stance.

The stance is one of the most important components of your golf swing.

All begin with the stance. If your stance is wrong, you are going to fail, you will hit bad or the ball will go in the wrong direction.

Depending on the shot (bunker, chip, full swing, etc.) you have to do some adjustments but the base is pretty much the same.

I have had periods that I couldn’t hit the ball correctly and I spent days in the driving range trying to find out the problem, doing some adjustment, trying different things without success when finally I checked my stance and identified the problem.

Always check your stance. The right stand will give you more consistency, direction, and power.

Follow these steps to find the proper stance.

Stand straight.

Relax. If you are stiff you will never feel comfortable and you won’t be able to rotate.

Open your feet as wide as your shoulders.

Bend your knees very slightly. If you bend too much, you won’t be able to tilt your hips toward the ball and it will block your swing.

Do not bend your back.

Down the club and tilt your hips until the clubface touches the ground

– Feet: Some golfers open a little the left food (right-handed) to allow the swing to go easy at the follow-through. I used to do that but later I changed it because straight feet give more stability. It depends on how you feel.

Check that your chin is set up perpendicular to your hands. Transfer your weight slightly to your right foot.

Your balance should be correct. In that position, you will be able to do a smoothie but powerful full swing.
