Every aspect of golf is very important and the short game is one of the most significant. Players tend to pay more attention to the full swing and disregard the short game. Huge mistake!
You need to work and improve your short game as much as the rest of the game.
I made that mistake when I was just a kid. I only wanted to learn how to hit the ball hard (my putt was another story – see my post about how to putt). That error cost me a lot of points and time.
Fortunately, I was just a kid with enough time to practice my golf.
The best advice I can give you is to work hard on every part of your golf game.
A good and solid short game can save you around 3 to 10 shots per round (depending on your handicap).
I will talk about the chip when you are close to the green (5 to 10 yards approx.). Depending on the situation you will roll the ball or will try to fly it.
In this post, I will refer to how to roll the ball.
Steps:
1 – Hand forward creating a V- In that position, if you fail the shot, nevertheless, the ball will roll.
2 – The ball in the front foot (fly higher) or in the back foot (roll more). Never put the ball in the middle.
3 – Put the weight on the front foot. If the weight is on the back foot, you may lose your balance or will topping the ball.
4 – At executing do not bend your wrist.
5 – Do a short backswing. If you do a long backswing you will force to decelerate when going down to hit the ball.
6 – Don’t stop the swing (do not hammer the ball).
